Hi! I’m Lorelei Smillie, a writer and journalist from New York City. I graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO., where I majored in Political Science and minored in Journalism and French.

I wrote for The Catalyst, CC’s student newspaper, for four years. During that time, I also served as hiring manager for The Catalyst.

My work has spanned local politics, business, and features. I’m interested in the contemporary relationship between cultural capital and politics. In other words, I’m always trying to figure out how politics, culture, and power relate to each other and shape our current society.

I previously interned with the Denver Gazette, where I covered local business news and features. I’m currently a staff writer for Colorado Media Group and its three publications: NORTH Magazine, the Southern Colorado Business Forum & Digest, and the Southern Colorado Insider (formerly known as the Colorado Springs Indy). I also cover the town of Winter Park’s council meetings for the Sky-Hi News.

I have additional bylines in Colorado Politics and The Colorado Springs Gazette.
